I have almost finished the Fortress Europa counters. It’s been a bit of a haul as there are a lot of them. Four panels of counters, or somewhere over 500 of them. All I have still to do are the reverse sides of the German counters (although that’s still a bit of work.)
I’ve been working on them 12 hours a day for the past 3-4 days, just to get the German obverse done.
My problem right now is that the last few Wehrmacht counters have names, not numbers. The print is very tiny, and it is in Old English/Germanic/Wedding text. As well, one of them is die-cut partially across the name. I can’t read most of them! I can make out some of them by guess and context – one of them I finally deciphered as Scharnhorst – but most of them I can’t. I’ll just have to do the best I can, I guess.
After I’m done with Fortress Europa, I think I will be moving on to the Arab-Israeli Wars counters. Kriegspiel is also under consideration. I’m also open to consideration.
I got a copy of Luftwaffe over Christmas. I’m contemplating having a die for circular counters made up. Then I could do Luftwaffe counters, and also some for Kingmaker. The problem is that it would be difficult to get a minimum-size run for the die-cutters every time.
It would probably be a better move to just make them both up as square 1/2″ counters. I never have a problem getting a batch of half-inch counters together. I’m just not sure it would go over well with my customers. If it was up to me, I think I’d want them close to the original size and shape.
