The Panzerblitz counters are all done and should go out to be printed today.
I started working on the standard Panzer Leader replacement counters, but got distracted. Dirk Schoenberger has some very nice British and German vehicle plans for the Western Desert. That made me realize that I have not yet done anything for the AH game Tobruk.
So I started looking at Tobruk and discovered that the counters were in plan view already. Finally! AH got smart. Just checking with Boardgamegeek I find that Tobruk came out after Panzerblitz and Panzer Leader. It might have been nicer if PB and PL had plan counters like Tobruk.
I was concerned to see that the Tobruk counters were only half inch. Considering that I had trouble fitting all the vehicle drawings at scale onto the Panzerblitz 5/8″ counters, this could be a problem. To counter this was the fact that most of the tanks in the Western Desert were early war, which means that they were smaller and didn’t have long over-hanging guns. So far, doing the British/Commonwealth units, I have had no problems fitting them onto the counters – although the Grant tank comes almost to the edges. Big sucker.
One thing I did contemplate is doing the counters in 5/8″ size and suggesting that they could be mated with the Panzer Leader desert boards. However I’m not sure how many people would have the PL desert boards. I certainly don’t. In fact, I can’t even find them anywhere on the internet.
Edit: Found them in the Imaginative Strategist website: http://www.imaginative-strategist.layfigures.com/IMSTRAT%20PL%20Desert.html If you haven’t browsed thru this site, I highly recommend that you do.
Edit April 30th: The counters are printed and out for mounting. Hopefully they will be trimmed and die-cut on or before May 8th.
